Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to your most pressing questions about our self-defense classes and training.

A Message From Don

What if I have physical limitations or prior injuries?

My classes are specifically designed with seniors in mind. I focus on techniques that leverage positioning and awareness rather than brute strength or extreme flexibility. Before beginning any training, I discuss your physical limitations so I can tailor the exercises to keep you safe and comfortable.

Do I need any previous martial arts experience?

Not at all. The curriculum is built from the ground up for absolute beginners. You don't need any prior martial arts or self-defense background. Don, my 28-year law enforcement veteran instructor, will guide you step-by-step through practical, real-world scenarios.

What should I wear to a class?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that you can move easily in, similar to what you might wear for a light walk or yoga. Closed-toe athletic shoes with good grip are highly recommended for safety.

Are the classes highly strenuous?

No. While there is physical movement involved, the intensity is kept low-to-moderate. We focus heavily on situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, and simple, effective escapes rather than exhausting aerobic workouts.

Who is the instructor?

Classes are taught by Don Von Lintel, a 28-year law enforcement veteran with 25 years of experience as a defensive tactics trainer. He is a certified FBI Academy Negotiator and former Police Sergeant, ensuring you are learning practical techniques that actually work in everyday situations.
